If you are unable to check in online, you can check in at the airport without any problems.
Seat selection (seating)
You can select your specific seat on the aircraft at the time of ticket purchase or later on the Copa Airlines website for a fee from 18 usd.
If you do not want to pay for a specific seat, you will be assigned a random seat for free.

Experience as of July 2026: I’m travelling with my family – two adults and three children. However, as far as the airline is concerned, we’re three adults and two children. The problem with Copa is that when I booked, I didn’t select seats, thinking I’d choose them during online check-in. Online check-in is available 24 hours before departure. The process is tedious and slow, and my session timed out several times, forcing me to start all over again. You don’t want to have to rescan your passports. Their system does not accept our telephone numbers. I got round this by entering the Slovak country code. During check-in, the system allocated seats for the two children and one adult together in the very back rows of the aircraft. The remaining two passengers were not assigned seats. However, the system doesn’t offer free seats, only paid ones, and I can’t get the whole group through check-in without selecting paid seats. So I ended up paying an unnecessary extra 70 USD over two flights. I reckon the only way to get a free random seat is by checking in at the counter.
