Due to the lack of clarity of the China Airlines website, it is better to book through the regular Czech search engines. It is usually worth booking 2-4 months before departure for the lowest price.
For travellers from Central Europe, the direct service from Vienna to Taiwan is particularly interesting, and there are also flights to Amsterdam and Rome. China Airlines is mainly used on flights to Taiwan or the Pacific islands of Palau and Guam, where they often have very good fares.

is the information that it is better to buy tickets through an agent still valid? I looked directly at their site and the tickets there come out at the best price. I could only find a similar price through Booking.com.

If their website (or app) is still as cluttered as the author of the guide suggested here 3 years ago, maybe so. Otherwise, Gotogate sells tickets on Booking (I recommend reading the reviews first and keeping in mind that unlike Booking itself, it doesn't have support in Czech).
Can be bought through their website/app, some areas are not in English even if you click it, but no tragedy. You can even select seats (but I think it was only on the mobile app or only on the PC - can't remember where), but you can't check in completely, which I guess has to do with nationality and you have to go to the counter even if you only have a handbook.
