Pullman G Bangkok - stylish hotel in Silom with rooftop bar

Hotel Pullman G sign

Bangkok has hundreds of hotels and choosing the right accommodation can be surprisingly difficult. Some hotels are luxury riverside resorts, others are modern city hotels in business districts.

The Pullman G Bangkok belongs to the latter group. It's a modern design hotel in the Silom district that mainly attracts:

  • large panoramic windows overlooking the skyline
  • rooftop bar Scarlett
  • good location for exploring the city
  • great value for money compared to other 5-star hotels

If you're planning a trip to Thailand for the first time, I recommend you first check out my itinerary for 3 days in Bangkok for tips on transportation, neighborhoods and major sights.

Why I booked the Pullman G Bangkok

When choosing a hotel in Bangkok, I usually consider three things:

  • a good location for getting around the city
  • an interesting view of the skyline
  • reasonable value for money

This time I was looking for a modern city centre hotel, as we planned to spend most of our time exploring the city.

I considered several hotels in the Silom, Sukhumvit and Sathorn area, which are among the most practical neighborhoods for accommodation.

In the end, I mainly chose by chain - I collect points for the All Acoor loyalty program.

We were also heading to Bangkok between Christmas and New Year, where prices are traditionally the highest of the year, so price was also an important criterion.

In the end, we paid for 3 nights with breakfast in a G Club double room with access to the executive lounge for 430 eur.

Location right in the heart of modern Bangkok

Pullman G Bangkok is located in Silom, one of the best areas for accommodation in Bangkok.

Silom is an interesting mix of:

  • business district with skyscrapers
  • rooftop bars
  • street food
  • nightlife

From the hotel, it's just a few minutes' walk to the BTS Chong Nonsi metro station, from where it's very easy to get to the rest of the city.

There are also several places of interest within walking distance of the hotel:

Check-in is at the main reception and takes an uncomfortably long time - we wait at least 10 minutes for the receptionist to fill in our details and register us.

Room with a view: large and empty

The Pullman G Bangkok has more than 400 rooms in several categories, but most share the same design concept - bright, minimalist interiors and large panoramic windows overlooking the city.

The dominant feature of the room is a huge window across the entire wall, giving you a very nice view of the Silom skyscrapers from the higher floors.

Bed and sleeping comfort

The bed is a classic king-size with a fairly firm mattress, which is common in hotels in Asia. For me, the bed is comfortable and along with the view the best attraction of the room.

Thanks to good soundproofing, you can hardly hear anything from the street, which is a pleasant surprise in central Bangkok.

The black-out curtains are of the same quality.

Bathroom

The bathroom is very spacious. The toilet is within the bathroom and not separated from it by a door.

Here you will find:

  • separate shower cubicle
  • bath tub
  • a large mirror across the wall
  • hotel cosmetics - well stocked
  • hairdryer

Work area

Pullman is also a brand aimed at business travellers, so the rooms have fairly good working facilities.

In your room you will find:

  • work desk
  • a comfortable office chair
  • several drawers
  • fast Wi-Fi

If you plan to work during your stay, this is a pretty convenient solution.

What's in the room

Standard room amenities include:

  • empty refrigerator
  • coffee machine and kettle
  • 2 bottles of water replenished daily
  • bathrobes and slippers
  • safe
  • iron and ironing board
  • large TV

The room also includes a very small wardrobe, which is not always a given in Bangkok hotels.

Overall the room is large but with unused space and potential.

I would have especially appreciated significantly more storage space, which is simply lacking.

What you won't find in the room

Some things that other hotels in this category have are missing here.

For example:

  • balcony (rooms only have large windows)
  • minibar
  • normal wardrobe

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the 25 Degrees restaurant on the 5th floor from 6:00-10:30.

The buffet combines Western and Thai cuisine.

What positively struck us about the breakfast?

  • good selection of sweet pastries
  • omelettes and eggs made to order
  • good selection of fresh fruit
  • good selection of hot food
  • noodle station

What disappointed me?

  • bad coffee from the vending machine
  • worse choice of cold dishes and vegetables
  • small restaurant space - quite crowded between 8:30 and 10:00

Overall, I would describe the breakfast at Pullman G as average. Nothing that I would remember. Nothing that was downright disappointing.

But compared to, say, the Swissotel Stamford in Singapore, which caters to a similar clientele, and where we slept for 3 weeks after Bangkok, the breakfast at the Pullman G was much weaker.

Is it worth paying extra for breakfast?

That depends mostly on your style of travel.

If you're leaving early in the morning, a hotel breakfast is very convenient. On the other hand, Bangkok is one of the best cities for street food.

If you enjoy discovering local businesses, I also recommend our article:

The price of breakfast is usually around 700 thb per person.

Pool, fitness and other services

The pool is not extremely large, but it has one major advantage - a view of the Bangkok skyline, including the 2nd tallest skyscraper , King Power Mahanknhon.

It's the perfect place to take a short break after a day of exploring the city.

Next to the pool you will find:

  • pool bar
  • several sun loungers
  • showers
  • free towels for rent

Next to the pool there is also a very nice fitness centre with good equipment and opening hours 24/7.

Of course there is also a laundry service - just leave your dirty laundry in a bag in your room and by the next day you will have your laundry back in your room.

Scarlett - rooftop bar in the hotel

One of the top reasons to book Pullman G is the Scarlett Wine Bar.

It's a rooftop bar with a large outdoor terrace and beautiful views of the city skyline.

The atmosphere is a bit different from the iconic rooftop bars in Bangkok - it's less touristy and more relaxed.

Scarlett restaurant is also included in the wider selection in the Michelin guide.

Scarlett is the perfect place to:

  • sunset
  • a glass of wine
  • dinner with a view of the city

We only went to Scarlett for an evening drink and that was rather underwhelming for us. We definitely enjoyed our drinks more at the other Bangkok bars we describe in this article:

What I really liked about the hotel

The view from the rooms

The large panoramic windows are the biggest asset of the hotel. From the higher floors, the view of the Silom skyline is really great, especially in the evening.

Location in Silom

Silom is a very handy neighborhood for exploring Bangkok. There are plenty of restaurants, street food and bars in the area.

Good value for money

If you're not looking for downright iconic hotels but want to stay in a well-known brand, Pullman G is a good choice.

What can be a disadvantage

The pool is rather urban

The pool has a nice view but is relatively small. If you want a large resort pool, there are better options in Bangkok.

The building is not brand new

The room design is modern, but the hotel building itself isn't exactly new.

Overall, the Pullman G feels more like a better average than an above standard.

Alternative hotels

If you're considering Pullman G Bangkok, you're probably picking a hotel in the Silom or Sathorn area. There are several interesting alternatives in the area.

Other hotels in the area

  • Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn - a very popular hotel with an infinity pool and direct connection to the BTS station
  • W Bangkok - a design hotel with a stylish bar and slightly more luxurious service than the Pullman
  • Lebua at State Tower - a luxury hotel known for the rooftop Sky Bar from the movie Hangover. Most rooms have views of the Chao Phraya River.

Cheapest alternative

If you're looking for accommodation in Sathorn and want to save as much as possible while maintaining quality, I'd recommend Amber Boutique Silom with prices more than half that of Pullman G.

Other Accor hotels

Pullman G is not the only one of the same brand in Bangkok.

In the area between Siam and Vicotry Monument is the Pullman King Power - a much more modern and better rated hotel, but with worse views.

But the Pullman King Power is only a few hundred metres from the airport train station towards Bangkok Suvarnabhumi BKK.

Is the Pullman G Bangkok worth it?

Yes, if:

  • you want a modern hotel in the centre of Bangkok
  • you want a rooftop bar right in the hotel
  • you want a view of the skyline
  • you're looking for value for money

❌ Not likely if:

  • you want a riverside resort
  • you want a large swimming pool
  • you prefer a brand new hotel
  • you prefer a superior hotel
  • you like great and original breakfasts

💡 Alternative:
If you want a similar location but a more luxurious hotel, check out W Bangkok.
