Hallstatt in a nutshell
Hallstatt is one of the most beautiful, but also one of the most visited places in Austria. In my opinion, the famous view of the little town nestled between the lake and the mountains is well worth the trip, despite the large crowds that gather here, particularly on summer weekends.
Hallstatt itself, however, is small, and you can easily explore it in a few hours.
When travelling here, it would be a shame to stay only in the town itself. In the surrounding area, you’ll find the lakes at Gosau, Krippenstein with the 5 Fingers viewpoint and ice caves, as well as hiking trails around Loser. It’s precisely this combination of Hallstatt with trips into the mountains that, in my view, makes it a brilliant choice even for a week-long holiday.
