Transfer at Tallinn Airport

Tallinn

Tallinn Airport handles all flights in one terminal with a central check-in hall for all destinations.

It is one of the smaller and very clear airports. From the entrance to the terminal to the exit, it takes no more than 10 minutes to walk to the aircraft.

A single security checkpoint on the right side of the hall takes you to a single transit area.

Departure gates 1-9 handle flights to Schengen area countries. This is followed by passport control and departure gates 10-17 for flights outside the Schengen area.

Transfer between flights

Tallinn is not a major connecting airport, however, with the growing AirBaltic airline, you can sometimes connect in Tallinn when travelling from Finland or Latvia.

The transfer is very well organised and you don't have to leave the transit zone at all during the transfer, even if you combine the transfer on your own by buying 2 separate tickets (if you are travelling with hand luggage only).

Schengen <-> Schengen

There is no security or passport control on flights between Schengen countries. You get off the plane straight into the area of the connecting departure gates.

In this case, the real transfer time is approximately 5-10 minutes.

Schengen -> Non-Schengen

When transferring from a Schengen to a non-Schengen flight, you only go through passport control. You get off the plane in the departure gate area for the Schengen area. Head to passport control at gates 10 to 19.

The real transfer time is 10-15 minutes.

Non-Schengen -> Schengen or Non-Schengen

If you arrive from a non-Schengen country and are connecting to any other flight, you must go through passport control and come out to the public area.

You will then go through security to the departure gate area.

The real transfer time is 25-35 minutes.
