The small international airport is currently used exclusively for summer charter flights to seaside resorts, and is therefore only open from May to the end of September. The airport terminal is minimalist, fulfilling only basic functions and resembling a warehouse. However, a small modern terminal is expected to open in 2018. Sliač Airport is located 14 km south of Banská Bystrica and 9 km north of Zvolen.
