As well as by car, you can reach Katowice Airport by local bus and also by long-distance coaches to destinations such as Kraków, Warsaw and Ostrava.

Public transport bus from the main railway station

The cheapest transport from Katowice Dworzec Główny station, where all long-distance buses and trains stop, is provided bythe AP routeoperated by the Katowice transport company ZTM (official website: metropoliaztm.pl/en).

The stop in the city centre is located in a covered bus station, which is connected to the railway station and the adjacent shopping centre. The signage is clear.

The cheapest and easiest way to buy tickets is by using your own payment card directly on board the bus or via the Jakdojade mobile app (Google Play / App Store).

Tickets from the ticket machine are more expensive and cost 7 pln.

• Journey time from the station to the airport: 42 minutes
• Frequency: every 30 minutes (every 60 minutes at night)
• Fare: 6,60 pln (a 90-minute ticket is required) or 13 pln for 24 hours

The AP bus service runs 24 hours a day at regular 30-minute intervals; at night, it runs only once an hour.

Matuszek minibuses to Katowice

Matuszek offers an alternative and often heavily promoted transport service with its minibuses, which also depart from Katowice Central Station.

They always connect with Ryanair and Wizz Air flights, but compared to the AP public transport bus service, they do not offer many advantages. Whilst the journey time is slightly shorter (around 30 minutes), the ticket price is significantly higher: 20 pln.

Long-distance buses to other cities.

Flixbus and Regiojet long-distance coaches also stop directly at the airport, running non-stop to cities in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Public transport buses to neighbouring towns

Apart from Katowice, public transport also runs from the airport to other nearby towns, but you won’t find much use for them when travelling from the Czech Republic. The only exception might be if, whilst travelling by train, you go one stop further to the town of Sosnowiec, from where buses also run to the airport. For completeness, here are the routes and their timetables (simply click on the route number):

• Sosnowiec– route M19 (every 30 minutes, every 60 minutes at night, runs 24 hours a day)
• Bytom, Gliwice, Zabrze– route AP1(runs approximately once an hour)

Ticket prices are the same for all cities – 6,60 pln for 90 minutes, or 13 pln for 24 hours. All cities are served by a single transport operator and a single fare applies.

Train

Since the end of 2023, a train has also been running to Katowice Airport.

The “Pyrzowice Lotnisko” stop is located approximately 150 metres from the terminal, and for the time being, around 10 services pass through here daily.

The service is operated by line S9 of the ‘Koleje Śląskie’ operator, running on the route Częstochowa – Myszków – Zawiercie – airport – Tarnowskie Góry.

In future, the service will be extended directly to the centre of Katowice. At present, however, the bus remains the fastest and most frequent form of transport to Katowice.
