Hungary's second largest airport is located 6 km south of the centre of Debrecen and serves as one of many smaller bases for Wizz Air. Debrecen Airport is connected to the global flight network via Lufthansa' s Munich route.

In addition to eastern Hungary, the airport's catchment area also includes north-western Romania, whose inhabitants use Debrecen Airport extensively.
The terminal closes for the night, opening three hours before the first departure and closing one hour after the last arrival.
