Getting from Cluj Airport
The airport is connected to the city centre by the A1E express bus for 6 ron or by trolleybuses 5 and 8, for which you pay 3 ron. You can buy a ticket from the ticket machine at the bus stop.
How much do taxis cost, where can I find bus timetables and what are the prices of rental cars? Read this chapter to find out the best way to get from Cluj Airport to the city centre.

Trolleybus and buses
The airport express line A1E stops directly in front of the terminal.
- Bus A1E - goes along the main street to the centre to Mihai Viteazul Square. The bus does not stop at all stops along the way.
- Frequency - 30 to 60 minutes
- Travel time - 25 minutes
- Last bus from the airport: 23:00
- First bus to the airport: 4:00
- Timetable: ctpcj.ro/linia-A1E
Tickets for the A1E line can only be purchased inside the bus for 6 ron / 1 way. Tickets bought in newsagents or vending machines are not valid on the A1E line.
The stop for other city lines is approximately 120 metres to the right of the terminal on the main road. The centre is on the right from the airport.
- Trolleybus 5 - goes to the centre to the Vicotria stop, where it turns right and goes through the historic centre to the main train station
- Frequency - 13 minutes (20 minutes on weekends and evenings)
- Journey time - 35 minutes
- Last bus from the airport: 22:50 (weekdays), 22:17 (weekends)
- First bus to airport: 4:52 (weekdays), 5:15 (Saturday), 5:35 (Sunday)
- Timetable: ctpcj.ro/linia-5
- Trolleybus 8 - goes to the centre to Mihai Viteazul Square
- Frequency - 60 to 80 minutes (runs only on weekdays)
- Journey time - 30 minutes
- Last bus from the airport: 21:49
- First bus to the airport: 4:40
- Timetable: ctpcj.ro/linia-8
- Night bus 5N - goes to the city centre and the railway station
- Special fares apply - 5 ron / 1 ride
- Frequency - 30 minutes
- Journey time - 30 minutes
- Operating hours - 22:50 to 0:50 in both directions only
- Timetable: ctpcj.ro/line-5n
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket machine at the bus stop, where you can pay with card and cash, or via the 24 Pay mobile app. Payment via SMS is also available.
Only a 2-ride ticket is available for 6 ron. One trip is therefore based on 3 ron. The paper ticket works by marking one side of the ticket in the validator inside the trolleybus, bus or tram for the first trip and the other side for the second trip.
If you buy via the 24 Pay mobile app, you can buy a single ticket for 3 ron, a day ticket for 20 ron or a 72-hour ticket for 33 ron (not valid on the A1E express line).
Detailed information can be found on the website: ctpcj.ro.
The M41, M42, M43 and M44 suburban buses also pass through the station, which do not go to the centre but terminate in the eastern part of Cluj at the Arte Plastice stop, and some of them run in the direction of the airport after 11pm.
Tip for a hotel near the bus stop
Book your accommodation without the hassle of searching and stay right by the bus or trolleybus stops.
- Hotel Transilvania *** - A well-rated hotel right next to Mihai Viteazul Square
- Pensiunea Junior *** - cheap and good hotel 1 minute walk from the train station
Taxi / Uber / Bolt
There are always plenty of taxis waiting outside the terminal. Always insist on driving with a meter or use the often cheaper mobile apps Bolt or Uber, which work great in Cluj.
Prices are around 35 ron. However, at peak times the price can go up via 60 ron and we always recommend comparing prices on both apps - they can differ by tens of lei.
Regular taxis run at prices around 40 ron.
Rent a car
There are several car rental branches right in the terminal. There are, for example, Thrifty, Hertz, Alamo, Autounion and the local Klass Wagen.
Weekly rental rates start at 35 eur.

The fact is that the night lines in Cluj do run. One of them even from the airport - 5N. Tickets for night services cost 5 RON and can be bought either on the bus or via the 24Pay app. https://play.google.com/store/ap...ntyfourpay
Timetable here: https://ctpcj.ro/index.php/en/ti...es/line-5n
Lines M41-M44 terminate at the Arte Plastice stop and some of them have their last connection from the airport even after 11pm.
Delete the 1st and 2nd sentences under Taxi.
The last 5N doesn't run until 00:50 and it runs the same every day.
The information about the 24Pay app does not belong to the 5N bus, but collectively to both trolleybuses and the 5N bus. Tickets can also be purchased via SMS.
All-day (24h) fares ARE available, as well as 72h and 7-day fares.
So just delete the 5N "(one on weekdays)", under public transport "and all-day fares are not available in Cluj", move the link to the 24Pay app, add SMS and info about 24h, 72h and 7-day tickets and you're done. 🙂
Thanks, hopefully finally updated!
24Pay still lacks mention of the 5 RON night bus ticket.
I saw BOLT for 65 RON, Uber for 34 RON.
Thanks, I'll edit the text.
However, from the public transport stop, the Bolt was cheaper. The stupid thing is that Uber offers a ride for 4 people, but Bolt only offers 3.
