Cagliari Airport is accessible by train, several bus lines and car rental services.
Car rental
If you want to explore Sardinia on your own, driving around and discovering deserted beaches or mountain villages, the best mode of transport is to rent a car. Cagliari Airport is home to many car rental companies, both local and multinational. You can easily compare them all at the click of a button, for example via these websites:
Prices vary greatly according to the season and, above all, how far in advance you book. If you book a car for the summer season a month in advance, you'll pay as little as 800 eur for a week, but if you book six months in advance, for example, you'll pay for the same car for the same amount of time from 150 eur.
Train
To get to the centre of Cagliari, there is a train from the adjacent train station "Elmas Aeroporto" (5 minutes walk along a signposted path).
Trains run every 10-30 minutes from 5:30 to 23:00 and will take you to Cagliari Central Station in about 10 minutes. Check the exact timetable at trenitalia.com.
The ticket costs 1,30 eur and can be bought from the machine in the arrivals hall or online (not linked to a specific connection).
You can also use trains from the same stop in the opposite direction to all major cities in Sardinia:
- Oristano (6,10 eur, about 50-70 minutes)
- Macomer - change to buses to Bosa (9,50 eur, approx. 2 hours)
- Olbia (18 eur, approx. 3.5 hours)
- Sassari (16,50 eur, approx. 3.5 hours)
Bus
The last night service at 0:15 from the airport or 0:00 from the centre is no longer a train, but bus line 160 (timetable: arstspa.info/160). Bus lines 501, 747 and 9342 also stop at the airport from Cagliari, all of them running only 1-2 times a day.
You can buy a ticket for these ARST services at the ticket office in the arrivals hall, which is open between 6:00 and 19:00. It is convenient to buy a ticket via the DropTicket mobile app (available on Google Play / App Store).
Taxi
There are always a number of official taxis waiting at the airport. There is a flat rate for a ride to the centre of Cagliari 17 eur.
