Alitalia was Italy's flagship airline, operating in the market from 1946-2021. After protracted financial problems lasting several decades, the Alitalia brand finally ceased to exist in October 2021 and was replaced by the newly created ITA Airways.

It was based at Rome Fiumicino FCO and Milan Malpensa MXP.
